Ojocaliente police station car bomb investigation, Digi Mart USA News (Ojocaliente, Zacatecas, Mexico): Two months after a car bomb attack against the municipal police building in Ojocaliente, Zacatecas, residents of the affected zone say they continue to receive no assistance. They also accuse municipal authorities of obstructing the progress of the investigations.
Affected residents reported that the municipal president did not attend a meeting scheduled with the impacted families to review damage to homes and property caused by the explosion. Resident Rosalba López described cracks and broken structural beams in her home and questioned the safety of local children.
Esperanza Méndez, another affected resident, said the committee and the victims had summoned the mayor to the disaster zone to answer their questions about their situation. She said the mayor had called the meeting himself for 12:00 p.m.
at the Sala de Cabildo, but did not appear.
The Zacatecas Attorney General, Cristian Paul Camacho, said the investigation has been delayed because the mayor has not provided requested information and has made inconsistent statements. He said the mayor did attend a meeting with state authorities but provided no relevant data, and that the contradictions between his statements and formal records suggest the Federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR) may also summon him.
Camacho said the authorities are continuing the investigation and that some people have already been arrested. He said he would not yet claim the attack is connected to the earlier assault on the police command, but that this possibility cannot be ruled out.
Authorities are also examining possible administrative liabilities, legal omissions, and any links between municipal staff and the attack.
