Guillaume Restes Looks Ahead to a Possible France Call-Up as Toulouse Faces Strasbourg

Guillaume Restes Toulouse FC France national team call-up: the 21-year-old goalkeeper is expected to be considered again by Zinédine Zidane ahead of France's matches against Italy and Turkey, after a debut against Belgium in October and a demanding stretch for Toulouse.

Guillaume Restes Toulouse FC France national team call-up, Digi Mart USA News: Before boarding the bus to the Stadium on Friday, Toulouse FC goalkeeper Guillaume Restes is expected to keep an eye on the announcement of Zinédine Zidane’s squad for France’s next two matches. France face Italy next Thursday and Turkey at Bordeaux on Sunday.

The 21-year-old from Toulouse was called up for the first time in his career in September and is considered very likely to be selected again. His first cap came in a relatively quiet outing against Belgium at the Stade de France on October 5, which France won 4-1.

Like every France player, Restes will be watched more closely, expected more and hoped for at a level matching his new international status when Toulouse meet Strasbourg on Friday at 8:45 p.m. His teammate and rival for the France jersey, Robin Risser, had a nightmarish evening in the Champions League on Wednesday, losing 9-1 to Como, where Jean Butez, who replaced him at the last gathering, was used because Risser was injured.

Restes’s outing last Sunday at the Vélodrome was more straightforward but still far from satisfactory. He was responsible for a risky distribution that led to the first goal and conceded a second on Marseille’s second shot on target.

His only real chance to be decisive came with a fine save from an Aguerd header.

“It’s very easy to blame the goalkeeper, but after two goals where he is beaten for speed on his positioning because we lose the ball in critical areas, he hardly had the chance to show how good he is,” said coach Jens Berthel Askou. “He is the first to be critical of his decision-making on the first goal and of not playing longer.”

The first goal Toulouse conceded at the Vélodrome says as much about Restes as it does about the club’s style of play. “Our game means we will make mistakes in critical areas, but also that we will gain enormously from our risk-taking,” Askou explained.

“That is what puts us in the top four of Ligue 1 in terms of performance. We are not yet efficient enough, but what we are doing is paying off in performance, confidence, excitement and player development.

When I watch Guillaume, I see a player who is progressing here.”

Askou also said there is nothing accidental about the wave of first (or near-first) international call-ups for Toulouse players this season, including Jorgensen, Tapé, and Nicolaisen, who was called up on Wednesday with Denmark, as well as Restes. “Because the different national team coaches see them play top-level football, at international level.

They watch us and see the overall picture, without concluding that because there is an error here or there the team is going nowhere,” he said.

Askou praised the mentality and professionalism of his young goalkeeper. “Guillaume is not someone who doubts himself or stresses because he has just conceded a goal or made a mistake.

Every day, with Eric Allibert, the Toulouse goalkeeping coach, they look at every small detail he can improve in his game. We will see whether he returns to the France squad, which I hope for, but I would be surprised if we do not see an excellent version of himself on Friday against Strasbourg.”
