Mexico new vehicle sales October 2026, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City): New car sales in Mexico extended their rise to an eighth consecutive month in October, running counter to the declines seen in vehicle production and exports. The increase comes amid consumer discounts that are squeezing the profitability of dealerships.

According to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 137,438 light vehicles were sold in the country in October, a 3.1% increase from a year earlier. Cumulative sales for January through October reached 1.2 million vehicles, a 5% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

The Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), which represents more than 2,000 companies engaged in the distribution of light and heavy vehicles in the country, attributes the growth to “hypercompetition” in the market, which has led to steep discounts and incentives for buyers. AMDA executive president Guillermo Rosales said vehicle prices are even lower in real terms than in 2025, speaking on a podcast from the financial group Banorte in October.

Rosales said the arrival of Asian brands, particularly Chinese ones, has increased competition in vehicle sales, alongside auto credit offered by banks and specialized finance companies. He has previously warned that the situation is unsustainable over time, because although more vehicles are being sold, profitability is declining “alarmingly.”

In a meeting with media in July, Rosales estimated that extraordinary market conditions benefiting buyers will continue while the gap between vehicle price increases and inflation narrows. “After these three years in which the automotive market has grown well above the performance of the economy, we will close this year with sales growth slightly above 3%, with a horizon toward 2028 and 2029 of slower growth than we have observed,” he said.
