Mexican supermarket chains third-quarter 2026 revenue Walmart de Mexico Chedraui La Comer Soriana, Digi Mart USA News: Leading supermarket companies listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV), including Walmart, Chedraui and La Comer, posted growth in total revenue in the Mexican market during the third quarter of the year, a result that differs from that of Organizacion Soriana. Despite these results, analysts and the companies themselves note that consumer spending remains cautious.
Walmart de Mexico increased its total revenue in the country by 3.1%, while Grupo Comercial Chedraui rose 4.6% and La Comer rose 4.6% in the third quarter of 2026, compared with the same period a year earlier in the Mexican market. Soriana’s revenue decreased 4.3% from July to September of this year compared with the same period a year earlier, according to its financial report.
Cristian Barrientos, president and chief executive of Walmart de Mexico and Central America, said in a recent quarterly call with analysts that consumers are becoming more cautious. Amid this environment, the company launched a campaign called “Precios que No se Tocan” (Prices That Are Not Touched) in the country, featuring more than 4,000 items at fixed prices for more than 90 days.
Ariel Mendez, an analyst at Ve por Mas, said in a report that Walmart de Mexico posted a weak result, with moderate revenue growth, but continues to face operating pressures due to its strategy of prioritizing market share and store openings. He added that slowing consumption and investments in pricing, logistics and digital capabilities continue to limit short-term operating leverage.
Regarding La Comer, the analyst noted that although net revenue continues to grow above inflation, higher costs and expenses are eroding the company’s margins and net profitability.
Chedraui has been affected by weak performance in southern Mexico, a region that accounts for about 42% of its net sales. José Antonio Chedraui, the group’s director, said during a conference with analysts and investors on the company’s quarterly financial results that this has significantly affected overall growth.
He said the region is still affected by tourism, and that the sargassum crisis, the dollar-peso exchange rate and security have clearly weighed on that region in particular. He expressed confidence that the situation is cyclical and that the region can recover.
In same-store sales, meaning units operating for more than one year, Walmart de Mexico and La Comer recorded increases of 1.7% and 1%, respectively, from July to September of this year compared with the same period of 2025. By contrast, Soriana and Chedraui in Mexico reported declines of 3.26% and 0.7%, respectively, in comparable sales in the third quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier.
Toward year-end, supermarkets could see good results due to a combination of factors, including El Buen Fin, year-end holiday celebrations and early purchases ahead of Three Kings Day. Indicators that will drive sales at these stores will also depend on formal employment and year-end 2026 inflation.
