Inés Gómez Mont habeas corpus petition ICE Florida detention, Digi Mart USA News (Fort Lauderdale, Florida): Former television host Inés Gómez Mont, a fugitive from justice in Mexico, has filed a legal petition asking U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release her from a Florida detention center where she is being held, according to court documents.
Attorney John Patrick Pratt filed a writ of habeas corpus, a legal mechanism used to challenge detentions considered arbitrary in the United States, before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey T.
Kuntz of the Southern District of Florida in Fort Lauderdale, according to court records available Monday.
The petition was filed last Saturday, one day after her detention in Miami became known. Its existence became public only now, and the document remains under seal, so the arguments supporting her release are not yet public.
The habeas petition seeks Gómez Mont’s release from the Broward Transitional Center in Pompano Beach, about 55 kilometers north of Miami, where ICE’s detainee database still listed her as of Monday.
Gómez Mont, known for hosting entertainment programs such as Ventaneando on TV Azteca, and her husband, businessman Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, face arrest warrants in Mexico for alleged embezzlement, organized crime and transactions involving funds of illicit origin, over an alleged amount of 3,000 million pesos.
Attorney General Ernestina Godoy said Monday that three of the warrants against Gómez Mont relate to organized crime and money laundering, while two more concern tax fraud for allegedly omitting more than 13 million pesos in taxes in 2014 and 2016.
ICE also detained Álvarez Puga in September 2025 in the United States, but he has disappeared from the detainee database and his whereabouts are unknown, although he has an immigration hearing scheduled for November to review his case.
Gómez Mont’s detention in the United States is tied to her immigration status. Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR) is seeking her extradition and submitted a provisional detention request for that purpose in September 2025.
The couple had been listed in Interpol red notices since 2021 at the request of Mexican authorities, but President Claudia Sheinbaum said in September that Interpol had withdrawn the alerts and that Mexico would request their reinstatement.
According to the FGR, Gómez Mont allegedly received public funds diverted from the Decentralized Administrative Body for Social Prevention and Rehabilitation through shell companies into her personal bank accounts, in connection with contracts worth about 2.45 billion pesos during the administration of Enrique Peña Nieto. Godoy warned that if the former host is extradited, the arrest warrants will be executed upon her arrival in Mexico.
