DWP Attendance Allowance rates April 2027, Digi Mart USA News: The Department for Work and Pensions has announced its Attendance Allowance rates for 2027. Currently, 1.8 million people are receiving Attendance Allowance from the DWP.
The Labour Party government pledged a 3.5 per cent increase in its Autumn Budget. The updated rates will be £79.40 and £118.60 for the lower and higher rates respectively, representing a £2.70 and £4 rise from the present levels of £76.70 and £114.60.
The DWP states: “Attendance Allowance is paid weekly at 2 different rates – the one you get depends on the level of help you need. Attendance Allowance is not means-tested – what you earn or how much you have in savings will not affect what you get.”
The lower rate applies to those requiring frequent help or constant supervision during the day, or supervision at night, according to Birmingham Live. The higher rate is for those needing help or supervision throughout both day and night, or where a medical professional has indicated you are nearing the end of life.
Age UK explains: “The money you receive isn’t taxable or means-tested – so your savings or income won’t affect your claim. Claiming also won’t affect any other benefits you receive.
In fact, it can help you get other benefits such as Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, or council tax reduction.”
Age UK states: “You have any type of disability or physical or mental illness, including sight or hearing impairments and conditions such as dementia. You could benefit from help with personal care, such as getting washed or dressed, or supervision to keep you safe during the day or night.
“You’ve needed help for at least six months. This doesn’t apply if you’re terminally ill, in which case you can make a claim straight away.”
Anyone who receives Attendance Allowance may also be eligible for extra Pension Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction. Claimants are advised to check with the helpline or office dealing with their benefit.
