Israeli settlement daycare staff charged with abuse of infants and toddlers, Digi Mart USA News (Ariel, occupied West Bank): Three employees of a daycare center in Israel have been charged with abuse and violence against at least 17 babies and toddlers. The youngest children were just six months old.
In total, the case involves more than 400 incidents.
The daycare center is located in Ariel, a settlement in the occupied West Bank. According to the prosecutor, the children were choked and tied up by the three accused female staff members, including the director.
They allegedly shook the children and locked them in dark rooms.
The suspects are also accused of stuffing paper or cloths into the children’s mouths to stop them from breathing. This continued until the children turned completely red and nearly suffocated.
Several children became disoriented and lost their balance as a result.
According to the Israeli news outlet Ynet, the abuse came to light after a mother discovered injuries on her child. The suspects appeared in court today.
Footage from the courtroom shows parents confronting the three accused while security personnel escort the women away.
Israel has in recent years seen more cases of abuse at daycare facilities. Last month, three women were arrested for throwing children to the ground and hurling objects at them.
