Fire at historic Lunderbye Nor building in Kongsvinger, Norway, Digi Mart USA News (Kongsvinger, Norway): A major fire is burning in the historic Lunderbye Nor building in Kongsvinger, a structure dating from the 1850s. The fire has forced the closure of the E16 highway.
An operations leader with the Innlandet police district, Vidar Flokenes, told NRK that the owner has confirmed the building is empty. Police and emergency services are advising neighbors to keep their windows closed and stay away from the smoke in the area.
The manor house lies close to the railway and the E16 highway. The road is expected to remain closed through the night, while the railway remains open.
Flokenes said the cause of the fire is unknown. “It is far too early to say, but we are seeing that it is burning more upstairs than downstairs,” he said.
Lunderbye Nor, also known as Nor manor, was built by master builder Johan Heinrich Günther Schüssler in 1858–59. In recent years the building has operated as a museum and cultural park under the name Kulturparken Nor.
