Chicago weather temperature drop and frost forecast, Digi Mart USA News (Chicago area): The first bout of “true late fall-like temperatures” this season moves into the Chicago area starting Thursday, with a 20-degree temperature drop and the chance of frost or a freeze by this weekend. The forecast follows multiple days of temperatures in the 70s and one of the Chicago area’s warmest Octobers on record.
Early Thursday morning, temperatures were already in the 40s, according to NBC 5 Storm Team meteorologist Iisha Scott. Temperatures are expected to rise into the 50s, but wind gusts up to 30 mph throughout the day could make conditions feel even chillier.
“When temperatures start cooling down, you factor in that wind, it’s going to start feeling cooler,” Scott said.
Scattered showers were also possible Thursday afternoon and evening, Scott said, though not everyone will see rain. Overnight, lake-effect rain showers are expected to develop in northwest Indiana.
Friday will be colder, with highs in the upper 40s and lows in the upper 30s. “It’s going to get even colder as we head into this upcoming weekend,” Scott said, with overnight lows staying in the 30s.
Friday night into Saturday morning, frost is possible, along with freezing temperatures inland, the National Weather Service said. Mild weather is expected to return Sunday and Monday, with temperatures rebounding into the 50s and 60s starting Sunday.
According to the Climate Prediction Center, mid-November is expected to be warmer than average for this time of year.
