Carney Chukwuemeka injury Borussia Dortmund, Digi Mart USA News (Dortmund, Germany): Borussia Dortmund are concerned about Carney Chukwuemeka after the 23-year-old was seen struggling to climb the stairs from the player tunnel following the club’s 2-1 win over SV Elversberg on Saturday, November 7. RUHR24 observed him favoring his left leg on the way to his car.

Chukwuemeka had to leave the match after about half an hour. Without any outside contact, he sat down on the pitch and grabbed his left thigh before leaving the field with his head down.

Maximilian Beier came on in his place.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, BVB coach Niko Kovac voiced his fears: “Carney got injured today. In my opinion he will not travel to the national team because he had muscular problems and has probably also suffered a muscle tear.”

The setback is a bitter one for Chukwuemeka. Since his move from Chelsea to Dortmund, recurring muscular complaints have repeatedly held him back.

Recently, however, he had noticeably worked his way into the team.

Ole Book also spoke openly after the final whistle. “Yes, that is never nice,” he said, adding that this applies to every player who gets injured.

In Chukwuemeka’s case, he said, there is an added concern: “With Carney we of course always have worries.”

Book said the player has not yet received a diagnosis from the doctors. The club leadership now wants to discuss calmly how the player’s recovery will proceed over the next two weeks.

The news is also being followed with concern in Vienna. Chukwuemeka is an Austrian international, and the Austria national team faces Ireland and Israel in the Nations League during the international break.

Based on what was seen on Saturday, his participation appears doubtful.
