Deportivo Alavés losing streak ahead of Sevilla match, Digi Mart USA News: Deportivo Alavés is struggling to break a worrying run of results. Since September 6, when the club beat Osasuna 5-2 and climbed to second in the table, the Basque side has failed to win a league match.

Over two months, Alavés has lost to Racing (2-1), Valencia (0-1), Atlético (1-2), Celta (2-1) and Barcelona (6-1), while drawing only twice, against Athletic (0-0) and Málaga (1-1). The club has collected just 2 points from a possible 21, leaving it two points above the relegation zone.

Coach Quique Sánchez Flores acknowledged the situation before Friday’s visit to Sevilla. “If we were here, eleventh with 12 points in 11 matchdays, coming off regular results, nothing would happen.

But the streak is bad, it drains us and tries to sink us,” he said.

The team arrives at the match shaken by a 4-1 defeat at Camp Nou and by the death of Jesús de Miguel following his collision with former Alavés player Jesús Owono, an event that the coach said had “impacted and struck the group.” Sánchez Flores said he is focused on restoring the players’ morale.

The coach plans to return to a back-five formation, saying the team must recover the simple approaches that made it competitive early in the season. Alavés has also been asked to raise its intensity and resolve, which dropped against Málaga and Barcelona.

Sevilla, led by former Alavés player Luis García, is among the surprises of LaLiga and sits sixth in the table. Still, Alavés has taken points in four consecutive visits to the Sánchez-Pizjuán, and a win before the international break would ease the pressure.
