Jon Ossoff 2028 Democratic presidential speculation, Digi Mart USA News: After the U.S. midterm elections, a pressing question has emerged: who will be the Democratic Party’s next presidential candidate?
Jon Ossoff was the first to officially win a Senate race in the midterms, and the 39-year-old politician helped Democrats win control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives by a margin not seen in decades.
According to B.T. foreign editor Jeppe Elkjær, Ossoff is an obvious candidate for a presidential run.
Elkjær said Ossoff had an excellent election, winning strong support in the swing state of Georgia, and described him as a superstar in the Democratic Party who convincingly won the race.
On the prediction market Kalshi, the field was very close before the election, but Ossoff has since pulled ahead. The platform gives him a 27 percent chance of winning the nomination, well ahead of California Governor Gavin Newsom at about 14 percent and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who also stands at a 14 percent chance.
Elkjær argued that Ossoff is a stronger prospect than the other options because he can mobilize Democratic voters and attract voters from the political center, which he said is essential for winning a U.S. presidential election.
Ossoff won re-election in Georgia with 59 percent of the vote against Republican opponent Mike Collins.
Ossoff first entered politics in 2017, losing narrowly in a U.S. House of Representatives race.
He ran for the Senate in 2020 and, after a tie in the first round, won the runoff by a narrow margin. He became the youngest senator elected since Joe Biden in 1973, and according to Elkjær, he is young, energetic and has an Obama-like speaking style.
Tom Perez, a former Obama administration cabinet secretary and former adviser to Joe Biden, told Sky News that if history is a guide, candidates for the next presidential race will likely announce their campaigns shortly after the new year.
