Pedestrian with cane killed by electric truck in Coyoacán, Mexico City, Digi Mart USA News (Coyoacán, Mexico City): A slow-moving man using a cane was struck and killed by an electric truck while attempting to cross an avenue in Coyoacán, according to a report from Cúspide México. The truck’s electric motor was quiet, and the man was unable to cross before he was hit.

The incident occurred shortly before 1:00 p.m. The man had visited a store in the Los Reyes neighborhood to buy a bottle of water and rested on a bench in a park on Avenida Aztecas.

After sitting for several minutes, he used his cane to walk toward the crossing at Calle Rey Moctezuma.

The report suggests the man may have walked into the street because the truck’s quiet motor prevented him from hearing the approaching vehicle. The driver also did not notice the pedestrian as he accelerated, and the height of the cab reportedly blocked his view of the walker.

Witnesses screamed, which alerted the driver, who stopped and got out of the cab. He found the crushed remains of the pedestrian beneath the vehicle.

Residents and merchants called police, who asked firefighters to help remove the body because the weight of the truck had left it pressed and mutilated.

No one in the neighborhood approached to identify the remains, but local merchants recognized the man as a customer who often walked with a cane on the streets where he died.
