Oil prices plunge as Mexican banks close for Day of the Dead, Digi Mart USA News (New York): Global energy markets were hit by a sharp sell-off on Monday, November 2, 2026, as oil prices fell violently on international exchanges, erasing the strong gains accumulated over the previous four months.

While investors on Wall Street worked to absorb the financial impact, Mexico’s bank branches and national financial markets remained fully closed for the Day of the Dead holiday. This mandatory pause left local operators unable to respond directly to the global drop in crude.

According to early financial reports, crude opened sharply lower amid heightened international diplomatic tension. Brent crude fell 5.93 percent to $106.69 a barrel after closing October above $113.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude also declined sharply, falling 4.97 percent to $97.96. The instability is linked to expectations of a possible peace agreement between the United States and Iran.

International investors remain nervous as they assess the situation in the Middle East and the upcoming impact of the U.S. midterm elections scheduled for Tuesday.

Mexico’s bank branches and brokerage houses remained closed because of the November 2 commemoration, leaving local investors to trade only through international electronic platforms. Despite the physical closures, the peso showed a slight appreciation on digital screens, trading at about 18.6848 per U.S.

dollar.

Attention now turns to the close of the Wall Street session, where investors expect news that could change the direction of markets. Apple is set to report its third-quarter financial results, a key report that will determine whether the technology sector can recover from the 28 percent drop it suffered in October.
