Mexico Fixed Investment August 2026, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City): Gross fixed investment in Mexico rose 5.7% year-on-year in August, according to original figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), maintaining a recovery observed since April. The data was reported Thursday by the European Press Agency (EFE).
The increase means investment has now posted positive annual variations for five consecutive months, after breaking a streak of 19 months of declines in April.
The August figure reflected a 7.6% year-on-year increase in construction and a 3.5% rise in machinery and equipment. Within construction, residential spending grew 8.9% and non-residential spending grew 6.4%.
In machinery and equipment, domestically sourced investment rose 1%, while imported investment increased 5.2%. In the same month, private investment grew 4.8% and public investment rose 11.1%.
Seasonally adjusted figures showed investment fell 1.8% in August compared with the previous month, although it advanced 6.1% on an annual basis. On a seasonally adjusted annual comparison, construction rose 7.9% and machinery and equipment rose 3.6%.
Compared with July, construction was unchanged, while machinery and equipment contracted 3.5%.
For the January to August period, investment grew 2.2% compared with the same period of 2025, driven by a 4.6% increase in construction, while machinery and equipment fell 0.5%. Public investment accumulated a 10.8% increase in the first eight months of the year, and private investment rose 0.9%.
The figures come as Mexico’s economy continues a recovery. According to official data released the previous week, gross domestic product (GDP) rose 0.9% in the third quarter of 2026 and advanced 3.2% year-on-year.
Gross fixed investment fell 6.7% in 2025, after growing 3.4% in 2024 and surging 19.7% in 2023 amid the boom in supply-chain relocation, or nearshoring. It rose 6% in 2022, and in 2021 it rebounded 10% after the worst phase of the pandemic, which had caused an 18.2% contraction in 2020.
Inegi states that gross fixed investment shows short-term investment behavior and comprises goods used in the production process for more than one year.
