Inés Gómez Mont arrest and possible prison sentences in Mexico, Digi Mart USA News: Inés Gómez Mont was detained on October 30 in the United States by immigration authorities. The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) said that if she is deported, she would face three active arrest warrants in Mexico.
Prosecutor Ernestina Godoy, in a video, explained that the charges against her are organized crime, operations with funds of illicit origin, and equated tax fraud. Mexican law sets a range of penalties for these offenses.
Under Article 4 of the Federal Law Against Organized Crime, sentences vary depending on a person’s role within the criminal organization. For equated tax fraud, Article 109 of the Federal Tax Code sets penalties equivalent to those for tax fraud under Article 108.
If the amount defrauded cannot be determined, the sentence ranges from three months to six years in prison.
The actual length of any sentence would depend on her guilt and degree of participation in the crimes. At present, the total sentence cannot be determined with certainty, since only arrest warrants exist and she maintains the presumption of innocence.
The situation is still developing, and the legal steps to be taken in her case are expected to be defined in the coming days.
