INE electoral materials reuse savings 2026-2027 federal electoral process, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE) hopes to save up to 806.9 million pesos by reusing electoral materials for the 2026-2027 federal electoral process. According to a draft cited in the report, “savings from reusing electoral materials are estimated at around 806.9 million pesos, according to the estimates set out in the report attached to this Agreement.”
The savings were discussed during a session of the General Council, where members were expected to approve the models and production of electoral materials and indelible ink for the federal electoral process. Materials to be reused include electoral booth partitions, electoral package boxes, ballot boxes, special screens, credential markers, ballot markers and “X” stamps, which local and district executive boards reported in good condition in their inventories.
The draft states that not all materials will need to be produced in full, since existing stock in good condition held by the institute’s district offices will be reused. The materials will be conditioned by the INE, so only the additional quantities needed to equip the polling stations approved for the process will be produced, with the exception of electoral booth partitions.
Regarding electoral package boxes, the draft indicates that boxes recovered from the 2023-2024 federal electoral process and the 2024-2025 extraordinary electoral process of the Federal Judiciary can be reused. To prepare them, labels will be attached to record the polling station identification data, one on the top surface of the package box and another on the exterior compartment, along with side pockets for copies of the scrutiny and count records.
For generic ballot boxes and boxes for elections other than federal deputies, the institute plans to use covers placed on the top lid bearing the name of the federal deputies election, in the color set in Annex 4.1 of the RE, to guide citizens in depositing their votes correctly. Finally, the draft notes that dies for credential markers must be purchased in full to equip the polling stations to be installed for the 2027 federal elections.
