Franco Colapinto, USA News: Argentine racing driver Franco Colapinto received a 10-second penalty after the Formula 1 Mexico Grand Prix, resulting in the loss of the points he had initially secured on the track. The stewards’ decision pushed him back to 15th place in the final classification after he had originally crossed the finish line in eighth position.

The penalty was issued because sports stewards determined that the Alpine driver did not sufficiently reduce his speed while passing through a sector under a yellow flag. To support their resolution, officials analyzed telemetry data and onboard camera footage from the single-seater car.

The official document explained that Colapinto failed to adequately decrease his speed in response to a single yellow flag signal. Consequently, he received a 10-second time penalty that altered his final result and left him without any championship units from the competition.

This resolution came after the Argentine driver had moved up the classification. Earlier, Oscar Piastri received a 10-second penalty for causing a collision with Arvid Lindblad, which had allowed Colapinto to briefly take seventh place. However, the subsequent sanction ended those gains.

His teammate, Pierre Gasly, was also penalized and finished in 17th place. The French driver received a 30-second penalty for failing to reduce speed under a double yellow flag. As a result, Alpine left Mexico without any points, remaining at 69 units in the Constructors’ Championship compared to Racing Bulls with 108.

Following the adjustments, Liam Lawson inherited seventh place and scored points for Racing Bulls, while the victory went to Max Verstappen, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli. Meanwhile, Colapinto ended up in 15th place and could not capitalize on the result he had achieved during the race.
