Democrats Win U.S. Congress and Implications for Mexico, Digi Mart USA News: The political reconfiguration of the United States following the midterm elections, in which Democrats won, will not necessarily represent a favorable change for the bilateral relationship, according to Arlene Ramírez Uresti, a doctor of International Relations and academic at Tecnológico de Monterrey.
In an interview with Pablo Valdés and Sandra Moreno on the program A las Nueve en Uno, she said a radical transformation should not be expected, since Democratic administrations have also historically maintained strict policies toward Mexico on migration and trade.
“In Mexico, the political reconfiguration of the United States today leads us to think that Mexico will definitely have to prepare a new strategy of foreign policy, diplomacy and negotiation,” she said.
According to Ramírez Uresti, Mexico should take advantage of the opportunities of the Plan México to boost national growth, without neglecting its international commitments.
She also explained that changes in the U.S. Congress will not be immediate, as Donald Trump will retain the current Congress for two months.
The effects of the new configuration would begin to be seen from January 2027.
