Cuatro Ciénegas Balloon Festival: The Pueblo Mágico in Coahuila is preparing for its hot air balloon festival, November 27 to 29, expected to draw more than 15,000 visitors from across Mexico and abroad as part of the Ruta del Desierto tourism route.

Cuatro Ciénegas Balloon Festival, Digi Mart USA News (Cuatro Ciénegas, Coahuila, Mexico): The skies over the Pueblo Mágico of Cuatro Ciénegas will once again fill with color during the Hot Air Balloon Festival. The event is one of the most anticipated tourism events on the Ruta del Desierto route.

From November 27 to 29, the festival is expected to bring together more than 15,000 visitors and attract tourists from other parts of Mexico and abroad. Luis Gilberto González Arocha, president of the Asociación de Touroperadores de Coahuila (SERTUCO), said that after nine editions the festival has become one of the region’s main tourist attractions.

González Arocha said three hot air balloons are currently confirmed through sponsors, though organizers hope to reach five or six as negotiations and flight sales progress. He said between 300 and 400 tethered flights are planned, along with roughly 24 to 25 free flights, which depend mainly on new sponsors.

The festival will also include street gatherings, nights of legends, and an exhibition of giant kites, an effort to begin promoting a new festival scheduled for March 21 of next year. González Arocha said the goal is to strengthen the entire Ruta del Desierto and benefit nearby municipalities, where hotels and tourism services also see increased activity during such events.

He added that the festival’s invitation has reached visitors from several Mexican states as well as from San Antonio, Texas, and Los Angeles, California. González Arocha described the event as one of the route’s largest draws and said there is high expectation that Cuatro Ciénegas will again become a meeting point for thousands of tourists over the last weekend of November.
