Oscar Jegou France-Fiji withdrawal, Digi Mart USA News (Lyon, France): Oscar Jegou will not play France’s match against Fiji on Saturday in Lyon (9:10 p.m. kickoff).
The Stade Rochelais forward, named on the France bench, injured his ribs during training at Marcoussis on Wednesday.
The information from Rugbyrama was confirmed by RMC Sport. The length of Jegou’s absence is not yet known, but he left Marcoussis on Wednesday evening along with 14 players who were released.
According to Rugbyrama, the coaching staff had counted on his versatility. He was to fill a hybrid role on a bench of six forwards and two three-quarters, able to cover in midfield.
Esteban Capilla is expected to replace him.
According to RMC Sport, the Bayonne back-row forward is expected to make his first France XV appearance on Saturday. Rugbyrama describes him as very mobile and comfortable with the ball in hand, also capable of playing in midfield.
The two players were teammates at the under-20 level.
Fabien Galthie is due to announce his squad on Thursday at 10 a.m., RMC Sport reported. The Blues face Fiji under Jake White before hosting South Africa on November 13 and Argentina on November 21.
This withdrawal adds to a long list this autumn. After Anthony Jelonch and Joshua Brennan, the France XV has already been without Julien Marchand, Thibaud Flament, Emmanuel Meafou, Matthieu Jalibert and Thomas Ramos.
