November 2024 Snowfall in Paris and Île-de-France, Digi Mart USA News (Paris, France): After heatwaves and rain, snow is now the question. A magazine article published on November 3, 2026 asks whether Île-de-France will again see a snowfall as intense as the one of 2024.
Two years ago, the northern half of France was caught off guard by a snow episode of rare intensity. Conditions are normally not favorable for snow to settle on the plains and in large cities, but storm Caetano defied forecasts.
On November 21, 2024, Météo-Paris described a snow front crossing the Bocage normand, Île-de-France, northern Centre and Burgundy.
The Manche coastline was blocked that morning under 10 cm of snow. In the afternoon and evening, clouds moved inland and reached Île-de-France.
The Yvelines were the first department of the Paris region to be affected, and the gardens of the Château de Versailles began to be covered in white.
Snow reached Paris itself, where it rarely settles. Residents saw snow cover the Sacré-Cœur, and at least 4 cm was recorded at the Parc Montsouris, described as the largest November snow accumulation since 1968.
The farther north of the capital, the deeper the snow, with between 20 and 30 cm recorded.
The snowfall delighted children and winter lovers but was less welcome for workers. While the landscapes were magnificent, roads were not adapted to the conditions.
Many vehicles were stranded on motorways, and some households lost electricity, making the episode a significant disruption.
