Mondial Relay, USA News (France and Belgium): The delivery carrier is preparing for the massive surge of packages expected during the year-end holidays and announced on Monday that it plans to add 450 temporary workers and 800 drivers between October and December in France and Belgium.
The company, which operates the largest automated parcel locker network in France, is getting ready to deliver more than 8 million packages per week across France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. According to a press release, these volumes are doubled from late October to mid-January.
In November, Black Friday and its discounted prices launch a period of heavy consumer spending that extends through Christmas gift purchases, placing heavy demands on logisticians who must prepare and deliver these parcels.
Earlier in October, two major delivery giants in France, La Poste and Amazon, revealed plans to hire 3,500 and 9,500 seasonal workers respectively to cope with the demand. Mondial Relay also reported an 8% increase in its parcel processing capacity between 2025 and 2026, driven by the opening of four new agencies—three in France and one in Belgium.
The company additionally hired 400 people in the first half of 2026 across both countries and aims to reach a total of 13,500 automated lockers by the end of 2026. Currently, it maintains 20,000 shipping and pickup points in France, comprising 12,500 automated lockers and 7,500 merchant relay points.
These recruitments, agency openings, and locker deployments align with investments announced at Choose France, according to Mondial Relay CEO David Lewkowitz. The group previously announced a national territory investment of 500 million euros by 2030.
When asked by AFP about a potential consumer shift toward e-commerce for Christmas shopping following recent violence targeting downtown retail stores, David Lewkowitz noted that while it is possible for heavily impacted major cities, it should not prove significantly broad across the entire country. He stated that many regions are doing very well and highlighted that lockers provide a delivery method outside of difficult areas. Mondial Relay belongs to the Polish group InPost, managing operations in France, Belgium, and Luxembourg, and employs nearly 2,500 salaried workers in France across 50 delivery agencies and 3 logistical platforms located in Pas-de-Calais, Seine-et-Marne, and Rhône.
