Mécaniques du journalisme France 5 Hulot abbé Pierre investigations: Digi Mart USA News reports that France 5 will broadcast two new episodes of the documentary series Mécaniques du journalisme on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, at 9:05 p.m., also available on france.tv. The series examines how an investigation develops, withstands pressure and eventually becomes public.
The collection, hosted by Mélanie Taravant, breaks down investigative work step by step, using archival footage and testimony. It is a television adaptation of a podcast launched by France Culture, and it follows earlier episodes on the Cahuzac and Bygmalion affairs.
Episode 3 covers the Hulot affair. On November 24, 2021, on the eve of an Envoyé spécial broadcast, Nicolas Hulot announced he was withdrawing from public life.
Journalist Virginie Vilar gathered testimony from several women accusing the former minister, a figure associated with ecology, of sexual assault or rape.
The episode traces the four-year investigation, from its origins during the MeToo movement to the silence of alleged victims, the first revelations by the magazine Ebdo, and the long process of cross-checking information. Contributors include Élise Lucet, editor-in-chief of Envoyé spécial, journalists Anne Jouan and Laurent Valdiguié, and Sylvia Perri, one of the first women to speak publicly under her own face.
Nicolas Hulot has always denied the accusations. He has never been convicted and remains presumed innocent.
Episode 4 covers the abbé Pierre affair. In July 2024, a report commissioned by Emmaüs made public testimony from several women accusing the abbé Pierre of sexual assault, including the rape of a minor.
More accusations followed. Seventeen years after his death, a figure long regarded as morally unassailable appears in a very different light.
The episode follows the investigation by Laetitia Cherel of Radio France’s investigation unit, which traces the matter to the Holy See and reveals a disciplinary file that had remained secret. The Conference of Bishops of France requested an investigation, while no criminal prosecution is possible against a man who died in 2007.
The series is designed to examine what was known and what was concealed.
