The series follows Jocelyne Veyrades, a modest working-class mother whose son Gilles, a young conscript, vanishes mysteriously in 1981 during a leave of absence. While the army favors the theory of desertion, Jocelyne rejects that explanation and fights to uncover the truth.
Over the years, other young soldiers disappear under similar circumstances.
Facing the silence of the army and the inaction of the justice system, she mobilizes the families of the victims. When a career soldier becomes the main suspect, Jocelyne clashes with his sister, who is determined to prove his innocence.
The drama explores a mother’s struggle, the failures of institutions and the search for truth.
In the first episode, Gilles Veyrades disappears without a trace in a village in the Argonne region while he was supposed to return home on leave. His mother refuses to believe he ran away or deserted.
Finding no response from authorities, she begins her own inquiry and discovers that several other conscripts from the region have also vanished under mysterious circumstances.
In the second episode, set in 1982, a body is found in a forest near the barracks. It is not Gilles but Christophe Pradier, another missing conscript.
In 1988, Jocelyne decides to publicize the case by speaking on the television program “Portés disparus.” Her appearance draws the attention of a gendarme who recalls recently arresting a man under suspicious circumstances: Guy Lachêne, who may hold the key to the mystery.
