Blackstone, USA News (New York): Blackstone announced on November 2, 2026, that funds managed by Blackstone Credit & Insurance, in partnership with a group of Canadian institutional investors, have agreed to invest $3.1 billion to acquire a 49.9% non-controlling interest in a Mitsubishi Corporation subsidiary that holds the Japanese company’s interest in the LNG Canada liquefaction business.

Blackstone described LNG Canada as Canada’s first and only large-scale LNG export terminal, noting that the Phase 2 expansion will double production capacity to 28 million tonnes per annum upon completion.

Each project partner independently procures feed gas, transports it via a 670-kilometer pipeline, and offtakes LNG in proportion to its ownership interest. The holding company holds a 15% interest in LNG Canada and currently offtakes 2.1 million tonnes per annum, which is expected to double to 4.2 million tonnes per annum following expansion. The gas is marketed to customers in Asia, primarily Japan, through Diamond Global Energy Pte. Ltd.
