Kraków mass shooting suspect linked to far-right ideology, Digi Mart USA News (Kraków, Poland): The motive behind the mass shooting in Kraków is coming into focus, and investigators are now examining possible far-right connections. Poland’s defense minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, described the attack as a terrorist act aimed at residents and tourists in Kraków.
Poland’s interior minister, Marcin Kierwiński, said the suspect was “probably fascinated by far-right ideologies,” according to Onet. Speaking at a press conference, Kierwiński said the suspect appeared to have acted alone and held very radical views.
He added that the initial analysis pointed to ultranationalist opinions, but that this would be investigated further.
Kierwiński confirmed that the suspect is a Polish citizen born in 2002. The suspect is hospitalized and is undergoing a second surgery.
His condition is described as serious.
Police believe the suspect may have taken the weapon from his father, who held licenses for several firearms. Six people, four women and two men, were killed in the attack.
Sixteen people, including the suspect, remain in hospitals. Among them is a police officer with three gunshot wounds whose condition is described as very serious.
Polish police posted on X that one of the officers is fighting for his life, writing that police work involves courage, responsibility and a willingness to act even when one’s own life is at risk.
