Ricardo Salinas Pliego calls for support in cultural battle, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City, Mexico): Visibly close to tears, businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego publicly asked his followers not to leave him alone in the so-called “cultural battle” he is promoting in Mexico, admitting that he does not know whether his movement will achieve its goals.
The remarks were made on Friday, November 6, during his participation in the Festival de las Ideas 2026, “Emoción por México” edition, held at the Frontón México in front of the Monument to the Revolution in Mexico City. “Because I don’t know whether we are going to win or not.
But I do know that these things are worth fighting for,” he said during his speech, in which he addressed his concerns about the political and social direction of the country.
Salinas Pliego made a direct appeal to those who sympathize with his positions, asking them to get involved in his initiatives and not to let him face what he described as a difficult struggle alone. “And I hope you will accompany me, don’t leave me alone, because it is difficult.
And not for me, but for you, for you, for your children,” he said.
The speech came three days after the United States midterm elections, in which the Democratic Party took control of the House of Representatives and the Senate from the Republicans, a result interpreted as a strong political setback for President Donald Trump, who actively took part in his party’s campaigns. The Republican defeat weakens the legislative position of the U.S.
president for the remaining two years of his administration and opens the possibility of greater investigations and checks from Congress.
That same Friday, hours after Salinas Pliego’s appearance, the Senate of Paraguay removed President Santiago Peña, of the conservative Colorado Party, amid the financial crisis at Ueno Bank. Afterward, the former president was detained at his home on the order of the Prosecutor’s Office, which is investigating alleged irregularities linked to the banking institution.
The Paraguayan case has triggered a political and economic crisis due to difficulties faced by many savers in accessing their funds and questions about public funds deposited in the bank.
These events follow the electoral defeat of Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, who lost the October 25 presidential runoff to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The result represented another setback for a political project backed by Trump in Latin America.
In that international context, Salinas Pliego took part in a panel titled “The Cultural Battle,” where he defended his positions on individual liberty, private property and the need to pursue political change through citizen organization. “The struggle is worth it even though our victory is unlikely,” he said, according to an account of the event published by Revista Central.
The owner of Grupo Salinas has also promoted Fortaleza Mexicana, an initiative through which he seeks to bring together supporters around activities and proposals related to his vision for the country’s future. Although the businessman has been mentioned as a possible presidential aspirant for 2030, he did not formally announce a candidacy during this appearance, nor did he specify whether his movement intends to become an electoral organization.
His appeal not to be left alone thus came amid a series of events that have changed the international political landscape for sectors of the right, although Salinas Pliego did not expressly link those events to his request for support.
