Geoff Molson CF Montreal ownership, Digi Mart USA News (Montreal, Quebec): CF Montreal has just finished a difficult season and will end the year in last place in the Eastern Conference. Fan frustration appears to be growing, and a loss to Forge in the Canadian Championship did not help the mood.
In recent weeks, the future of the team has returned to the center of discussion, and the possibility of the club relocating has resurfaced. That has led to talk about potential buyers for the club, and Geoff Molson did not completely rule out interest during the Classique Heritage.
In an interview with Sophie Durocher on Dans le blanc des yeux, the owner of the Canadiens was clear: he is not trying to buy CF Montreal. Molson said that, as a businessman, he would study any opportunity if one were presented, but that he is not there at the moment and no work is currently underway in that direction.
Molson also said he wants to see CF Montreal remain in the city, a point that appears to matter to him given how strongly Montreal supports its sports teams. It remains unclear whether he would become involved if a sale process were launched.
He said he knows Joey Saputo well, and his comments suggest he genuinely wants the club to stay in Montreal.
Having one ownership group or owner run more than one professional team in the same city is not uncommon.
