Liga MX Apertura 2026 Liguilla Qualification Scenarios Matchday 16, Digi Mart USA News: The Apertura 2026 tournament of Liga MX is entering its final stretch, and tension is at its peak in the race for a place in the Liguilla. América, Chivas and Cruz Azul have already secured their tickets to the Liguilla, and everything suggests Atlas will soon join them.
With four spots still available, the margin for error from Matchday 16 onward is minimal for several clubs on the edge. They are obligated to take three points from each match if they do not want to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
Puebla Although Puebla mathematically can still reach the Liguilla, its situation depends on many external factors. Sitting in 14th place with 16 points, the club could enter its Sunday match against Querétaro already eliminated if Tijuana and Santos each take at least one point in their matches the day before, and León does the same at the close of the matchday.
Pachuca and Atlético de San Luis Pachuca and Atlético de San Luis occupy 12th and 13th place respectively with 19 points each. Pachuca has a goal difference of +6 and San Luis has -4.
A defeat this weekend would make their chances of advancing practically nonexistent. If Tijuana, León and Santos each collect three points in their matches, the Tuzos and the San Luis side would be obligated to win this matchday or be eliminated this same weekend.
Pumas UNAM In 10th place with 20 points, Pumas could give up their Liguilla aspirations if they lose the Clásico Capitalino and Santos, León and Tijuana each collect three points this matchday. To avoid depending on other teams in Matchday 17, the university side needs to secure a victory against the Águilas this Saturday.
