Corsica flash flooding kills two, Digi Mart USA News (Corsica, France): Heavy rain on the French Mediterranean island of Corsica has killed two people. According to Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, who posted on X, their car was swept away by floodwaters during the night.
A 40-year-old woman who was also in the vehicle was rescued by emergency services near Bonifacio in the southeast of the island. She was taken to a hospital.
A weather warning remains in effect for Corsica because of the heavy rainfall and the risk of flooding. Wetter.com had already warned earlier in the week of large amounts of rain in southern France and on Corsica.
Neighboring southern France was also hit by severe storms, as had been feared. In the Gard department near Montpellier, the Vidourle river overflowed its banks after intense rainfall and flooded the town of Sommières.
Other regions also dealt with the effects of heavy rain.
