Asian stock market selloff following Wall Street tech losses, Digi Mart USA News: Yesterday’s sharp stock market decline in the United States has spread to Asia, with heavy losses concentrated among major technology companies, particularly those in semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
After Wall Street’s brutal session, the market slide has continued in full force across Asia. Fund manager Chris McGuire, who began as a stockbroker in 1991 and now works for a Japanese fund, told Bloomberg that the situation is as extreme as almost anything he has seen since the dot-com bubble.
The dot-com bubble refers to a period in the late 1990s when stock prices of internet companies rose sharply, driven by strong optimism about the new internet. The bubble burst in 2001, and many companies went bankrupt.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 index, which tracks how 225 of the largest companies on the Tokyo Stock Exchange are performing, fell roughly 5 percent. That is its largest one-day drop since April 2025, according to Bloomberg.
South Korea has also seen a steep decline in stock prices.
