Melodifestivalen 2027 all-female group, Digi Mart USA News: Sweden has been combed for the very best dancers and singers, and songwriters who have worked with global stars such as Jennifer Lopez and One Direction have been brought in, according to Aftonbladet.
Aftonbladet says it can now reveal that a newly created all-female group has been confirmed for Melodifestivalen 2027. The full lineup for next year’s contest is nearly complete, and the newspaper has so far revealed 28 of the 30 names.
According to sources speaking to Aftonbladet, the newly formed group has received approval from SVT, Sweden’s public broadcaster. It would be the first group of this type to compete in the contest in several years.
“We wanted to do something that hasn’t been seen in Mello before,” said one person with good insight into the project.
The group consists of a handful of young women who were handpicked by a record label after a search that has run for several months. The selected performers are dancers and singers, and several have previously worked behind the scenes with other Melodifestivalen artists but are not yet known to the Swedish public.
Sources say the team around the group wanted a song that would suit international artists. For that reason, songwriter Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt was brought in.
He wrote Eurovision winner Loreen’s “Tattoo” and several well-known Melodifestivalen entries, and has also written songs for Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj and One Direction. Anderz Wrethov and Robert Skowronski, who wrote KAJ’s Melodifestivalen and Grammis-winning song “Bara bada bastu,” are also reportedly involved in the project.
“This song is really strong, a modern uptempo pop track that I truly believe will suit Mello and viewers perfectly,” said one source.
Aftonbladet has a track record of predicting the contest lineup. It revealed 24 of 28 entries before Melodifestivalen 2019, 21 of 28 in 2020, and 27 of 28 artists in advance in 2021.
In 2022 it had identified 22 of 28, and in 2023 the figure was 24 of 28. Before 2024, its final list included 29 of 30 correct artists, though it also contained one incorrect name.
For 2025 it had revealed 28 of 30 competitors, and before the 2026 festival it listed all 30 artists in advance.
