Ford Schools 60th anniversary in Mexico, Digi Mart USA News (Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico): The 60th anniversary of the Ford Schools program was celebrated at an event held at the Ford Saltillo dealership, where it was reported that 1.3% of Mexico’s population has studied at these schools. As of the end of 2026, the program operates 215 schools and benefits 60,000 children, while 1.7 million students have graduated from them.

The program traces its origins to 1966, when Ford de México and its dealers launched a civic education support fund. In 1991, it was formally constituted as a nonprofit civil association.

According to the event, the resources that sustain the schools come from sales of Ford and Lincoln vehicles. For each unit sold, the dealer contributes 700 pesos and Ford contributes another 700 pesos.

These funds are used to build, donate and maintain public primary schools, as well as to implement health, science and sports programs, teacher training and infrastructure improvements.

At the end of 2025, the program supported 212 schools, a figure that rose to 215 by the end of 2026. Reported results include 88,934 eye examinations through the eyeglasses program, 17,900 children benefiting from Robotix/STEM activities, and 38,116 participants in sports tournaments.

Since 2017, the “Ford Impulsando Sueños” scholarship program has benefited 550 students. Through the Congress of Teachers and Directors, 7,330 teachers and administrators have received training, and 1,532 computers have been donated.

In Coahuila, Ford Saltillo sponsors seven public schools: five in Saltillo and one in Múzquiz. In Tamaulipas, it supports one school in Ciudad Miguel Alemán.

Diego Munguía Camou, general director of Grupo CAR, said during the event that the initiative began in 1966 and that the company is proud to have reached 60 years in Mexico. He said that for each car sold, the dealer contributes a sum of money and Ford Motor Company contributes an equal amount, resulting in an annual budget of more than 60 million pesos.

Munguía Camou also said that a school is currently being built in the State of Mexico and another in Baja California. The schools are built and equipped before being handed over to the Secretariat of Public Education, which operates them through its educational programs, while dealers remain in contact with school directors to address infrastructure needs.

The celebration also highlighted sports events, teacher training congresses, computer equipment donations and vision screening days providing eyeglasses to students who need them. At the close of the event, directors, teachers and students shared their experiences and testimonials about the impact of Ford Schools on the community.
