Mexico medical technology manufacturing and innovation, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): Senator Emmanuel Reyes Carmona of Morena said Mexico should take on the challenge of manufacturing, designing and innovating in medical technology. He made the remarks at the close of the 2026 Public Health Dialogue and tied them to recently approved industrial property protection reforms in the Congress of the Union.

According to the lawmaker, those reforms can strengthen the country’s national capacity to move beyond being solely a consumer market and begin producing health technology solutions. The call is part of a program promoted by the Swiss-Mexican Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Cooperation, with the backing of the Economy Commission, which Reyes Carmona chairs.

During the closing session, Reyes Carmona said the country has extraordinary capabilities to seize this opportunity, including scientific talent, technical capacity and a privileged position to join pharmaceutical value chains. He also stressed that the goal is not only to attract investment but to build an environment where it is safer and more competitive to research, develop technology, produce and propose solutions to the market.

In that context, he said changes to the Federal Penal Code and the Federal Industrial Property Law respond to the need for a more competitive environment. Reyes Carmona added: “Health is a human right that we must respect, protect and guarantee, but it is also a strategic sector for national development; every investment in research, technology, infrastructure and talent translates into better productive capacities and solutions for Mexicans.”

Eric Castillo of the Swiss-Mexican Chamber said that for Swiss industries, health is a sector where innovation, research, technology and investment can contribute to people’s well-being. The chamber represents 74 Swiss companies operating in Mexico, which, according to Castillo, see opportunities to attract investment and generate quality formal jobs.

The senator’s statements were reproduced in Senate communication bulletin 0416, dated November 5, 2026. No investment amounts or implementation timelines beyond the 2030 horizon cited by the lawmaker were announced, and the bulletin does not announce new plants or production schedules.
