Hamilton Ferrari Mexico Grand Prix controversy, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City and São Paulo): The storm at Ferrari following the Mexican Grand Prix has not yet subsided, and Lewis Hamilton, who took pole position for that race, continued to press the team in São Paulo, where another round of the calendar is being held this weekend. Hamilton has asked Ferrari to decide how it will handle the upcoming races and avoid problems like the one from last week.
Team principal Fred Vasseur accused drivers Hamilton and Charles Leclerc of showing a “lack of respect” toward the team after an incident on the first lap at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The conflict began in the opening meters of the race in Mexico City, when Hamilton and Leclerc were running first and second.
Leclerc attempted an aggressive overtake on Hamilton at Turn 4. The move ended in contact that ruined the team’s chance to secure victory and a possible 1-2 finish.
Vasseur, speaking to the French broadcaster Canal+, expressed his frustration sharply, saying: “It’s hard for me to digest because, frankly, I think it’s a lack of respect; a lack of respect for the brand, for all the people who work here and for the efforts we are making. Throwing a victory away like that is tough.”
Amid speculation in the Interlagos paddock, the seven-time world champion clarified his position. He said that the two have not yet had the in-depth conversation he requested after last weekend, partly because Leclerc traveled to Europe for the birth of his daughter.
Hamilton said he fully understands the magnitude of his actions.
“We haven’t had time to talk in depth. We have spoken, and I fully understand my responsibility to the team,” the British driver said.
“There are a lot of people working very hard in the factory; that’s why I always praise them and try to show my appreciation. I feel I have been an important part of where we are today as a team, which is positive.”
