The suspect escaped from a prison in California and had reportedly remained hidden in Jalisco for approximately 10 years.
The suspect is Jorge Abel Hurtado, 50, known as “George Hurtado.” According to authorities, he was serving a sentence for methamphetamine trafficking in the city of Taft, California, from which he escaped in June 2000.

The Jalisco State Police Intelligence Command coordinated the capture operation with its Cyber Police, Drone Unit and the Strategic Operations Force for Citizen Protection (FOEP).
Officers eventually located Hurtado near Avenida López Mateos, close to its intersection with Nuestra Señora de Santa Ana, in the Provenza residential development, and deployed to apprehend him.
After confirming his identity and that he had an active arrest warrant and an active immigration control request issued by the U.S. Marshals Service, authorities turned him over to the National Migration Institute (INM).
The detainee was taken to INM facilities, and the process began for his transfer to the United States from Guadalajara International Airport.
