Laven, who is about 34 years old, posted an ultrasound image of their daughter on Instagram and wrote about her grief. She said that grief is part of life, but she did not expect to experience it in this way.
She wrote that their daughter, Leila, “went to be with Jesus” on Saturday morning at just 23 weeks.
According to the post, Leila died on Saturday, October 31. Laven said the baby was diagnosed with hydrops at 20 weeks, described by MedlinePlus as a serious condition in which a fetus or newborn accumulates an abnormal amount of fluid in at least two areas of the body.
She said doctors told the couple the baby would not survive and advised them to look for an abortion clinic.
Laven said she had only begun feeling her baby’s kicks a few weeks earlier and that the pregnancy had finally started to feel real. She said the couple was able to hold their daughter after birth before saying goodbye.
Franco, who is 42, shared his wife’s post on Instagram and wrote: “We will love you forever, little angel. Until we see each other again.”
The couple married in January 2022 and became parents on May 13, 2024, when they welcomed a son, Leo. Supporters have sent messages of condolence to the family.
