Yucatán Economic Growth 2026, Digi Mart USA News (Yucatán, Mexico): Yucatán recorded annual economic growth of 4.3 percent during the second quarter of 2026, a rate that is double that of the United States and triple the European Union average, according to Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Mexico’s secretary of economy.

During the weekly press conference of Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, the federal official described Yucatán as a “locomotive state” for its contribution to national growth. He attributed the result to expanded public and private investment, job creation and economic confidence.

Ebrard said growth reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) places the state among the most dynamic state economies. He also congratulated Díaz Mena on his leadership of the state.

Among the economic results, Ebrard cited more than 260 million dollars in foreign direct investment during the first half of the year, the second-best figure for that period. He also noted a 17.7 percent annual increase in exports during the second quarter.

These indicators are joined by a 14.8 percent increase in average daily wages over the past two years. Ebrard said the data show that economic growth is accompanied by greater investment, commercial activity and higher labor income.

The official also highlighted Yucatán’s potential to join the semiconductor industry. As part of that strategy, he announced 5,000 free access slots to online courses from the University of Arizona, including specialized English training for the sector and entrepreneurship and innovation development.

Participants will receive a digital certificate with curricular value upon completing the courses. Ebrard explained that the training aims to prepare young people for jobs at companies that design, assemble and test semiconductors, and to help attract related investment.

Ebrard said the state needs to develop specialized personnel to compete for industrial projects. As a reference, he mentioned that a 380 billion dollar investment is expected over the next five years in Phoenix, Arizona, part of which Mexico seeks to attract.

Governor Díaz Mena said the state’s economic growth is supported by infrastructure works that he said were needed for decades. These include the expansion and modernization of the Progreso deep-water port, with an investment of 12,225 million pesos.

He also highlighted the Maya Train freight project, with 25,000 million pesos, a gas pipeline to guarantee natural gas supply, new power generation plants and economic development hubs. He said these works are necessary conditions for attracting industry.

Díaz Mena reported that Yucatán has a portfolio of 88 private investment projects worth more than 151,000 million pesos, with an expectation of generating about 79,000 direct and indirect jobs in manufacturing, energy, logistics, agro-industry, technology and tourism.

The governor said the goal is for investments to translate into jobs and better wages throughout the state, not only in Mérida. He added that energy, port and rail infrastructure will expand opportunities for businesses and families in Yucatán.
