Buenavista human remains and pre-Hispanic artifacts found during Mexico-Querétaro passenger train works, Digi Mart USA News (Buenavista, Cuauhtémoc borough, Mexico City): Works for the Mexico-Querétaro Passenger Train have uncovered human remains and pre-Hispanic artifacts in the Buenavista area of the Cuauhtémoc borough. Specialists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) are investigating whether the bones were part of an ancient ossuary.
In a statement published Wednesday, INAH said the first bone remains were discovered on September 17 during earthwork for the laying of the railway track near the Buenavista terminal. According to the institute, the remains could belong to the Late Postclassic period (1200–1519 AD) or to the period of contact with the Spanish (1519–1535 AD).
Excavations were carried out by INAH as part of an archaeological rescue project coordinated by archaeologist Víctor Francisco Heredia Guillén. According to INAH, the first remains appeared at an approximate depth of 1.40 meters.
Among the materials recovered are skulls, jawbones, fragments of hips, femurs, ribs and teeth.
