Gran Premio de la Ciudad de México attendance record, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City): Attendance at the Gran Premio de la Ciudad de México set a record this year, and an economic windfall had been expected from the event. The three days of racing drew 405,363 fans, a figure that surpasses the record set in 2025.
According to organizers, the race ranked among the four most-attended events of the season, behind only those in Great Britain, Australia and Austin. The Cámara Nacional de Comercio, Servicios y Turismo de la Ciudad de México had estimated that the event would generate an economic impact of 22,228 million pesos this year.
That figure is 6.5 percent higher than in 2025 and was accompanied by hotel occupancy of between 85 and 95 percent.
Spending reaches hotels, restaurants, transportation and commerce. Because this year’s race coincided with the Día de Muertos holiday weekend, Head of Government Clara Brugada estimated that the two events together would generate more than 35 billion pesos.
The event was first brought back to Mexico in 1986 through a effort led by Sandalio Sainz de la Maza, who was then directing sports promotion for the former Federal District, and businessmen Julián and José Abed. Sainz de la Maza, who died in 2021, said the most important aspect of a Grand Prix is that it “gives a positive image of the country, which drives tourism and generates national and international investment.” The current race contract with Formula 1 runs through 2028, and Formula 2 will debut in Mexico in 2027.
The next Gran Premio de México is already scheduled for October 29 to 31, 2027. This weekend’s race was won by Max Verstappen, with Kimi Antonelli finishing third, a result that was enough to secure the world championship for Antonelli at 20 years and 68 days old.
