Naucalpan Traffic Light System Renewal, Digi Mart USA News (Naucalpan, State of Mexico): The first phase of the Traffic Light System Renewal has started in the municipality of Naucalpan to improve road safety, prevent fatal traffic accidents and enhance vehicle flow. The project includes the installation of smart traffic lights at 18 signalized intersections, involving 87 traffic lights in the downtown area and the industrial zone.
Mayor Isaac Montoya said the new equipment uses modern technology, including artificial intelligence, and will be synchronized efficiently. He stated that this should reduce citizens’ travel time within the municipality by 10 percent.
During a press conference, Montoya said the current equipment relies on outdated technology. He noted that the lights are old and had not received maintenance for many years, and that they frequently break down and require technicians to reconnect cables.
Director of Urban Development Nina Izabal said the project has an investment of 21 million pesos. It includes pedestrian signals with audio, accessibility ramps and clearer, larger street signage at main crossings to provide universal accessibility.
Izabal said Naucalpan has a total of 49 signalized intersections with more than 150 traffic lights. The renewal also involves civil works for the ramps and the removal of obstructions on streets, such as mounds and pieces of posts, to improve the urban image.
Officials explained that the smart traffic lights include radar that measures vehicle frequency and adapts light changes to reduce congestion. The system can be controlled through programming from the municipal government.
Naucalpan has nine traffic light zones located in Centro, Zona Industrial, Echegaray, San Mateo, Satélite, Las Chamapas, Campo Militar, Hipódromo and Tecamachalco.
Ten intersections in the industrial zone will be upgraded, including Primero de Mayo and Avenida Las Torres, Boulevard Toluca and Calle Tres, 16 de Septiembre and Boulevard Toluca, Primero de Mayo and San Andrés Atito, and 16 de Septiembre and Calle 5. Work began at Primero de Mayo and Boulevard Toluca in the industrial zone with layout and excavation, while in the downtown area work started at the intersections of Avenida Universidad and Estacas, Avenida Universidad and José María Morelos, Avenida Gustavo Baz and Abasolo, and Avenida Gustavo Baz and 16 de Septiembre.
