JD Vance post-midterm political standing and Trump Iran war criticism, Digi Mart USA News: Vice President JD Vance did not wait 24 hours after the midterm elections before pointing to Donald Trump’s war in Iran as a cause of Maga’s losses.
In a roughly 600-word post on X, Vance outlined four routes to Republican recovery after Democrats gained control of Congress: “1) End the Iran War. 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation. 3) Put America First. 4) Change our relationship with Israel.”
The commentary argues that Vance’s post was an attempt to get ahead of any change of course by Trump, but that he is unlikely to receive credit for it and that his influence is shrinking. It notes that vice-presidents have no independent authority and cannot be fired, and that Trump has never been known to forgive disloyalty.
Trump, speaking at a press conference, said of Vance: “Maybe he [Vance] won’t run.” Trump also said that, as far as the war is concerned, he “would have done nothing different.”
The column also points to Vance’s past controversies and electoral setbacks, including the Democratic victory in Ohio’s governor race and the return of Sherrod Brown to the Senate seat Vance once held. It further suggests that Vance’s 2028 path depends on support from figures such as Elon Musk, Peter Thiel and Tucker Carlson, whose influence the column says is also fading.
Marco Rubio and Ron DeSantis are described as potential rivals. DeSantis described the midterm results as “close to an extinction level event for Republicans in many parts of the country.”
Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who the article says is set to become the state’s first elected Muslim senator, also commented on Vance in a jibe about his role in swearing in new senators in January.
