Dordogne strike day November 5 demonstrations and disruptions, Digi Mart USA News (Dordogne, France): Unions and high school students are calling for a major day of mobilization on Thursday, November 5. As elsewhere in France, the unions are calling for a large day of strikes and mobilization against the high cost of living “for wages, public services, employment and industry” in Dordogne.
The CGT, FSU, FO, Unsa and CFDT, as well as the agricultural union Confédération paysanne, are calling for mobilization in Dordogne. Three demonstrations have been announced.
High school students want to resume blockades, as they did before the holidays, and plan to block the Bertran de Born school complex in Périgueux from 7:30 a.m., before marching past the city’s other high schools.
In Bergerac, students at Maine-de-Biran also plan to block their school, and a similar action is planned at the Joséphine Baker high school in Sarlat. Because of the strike call, disruptions are expected on the rails.
TGV traffic will be slightly disrupted and Intercités lines will be disrupted. For TER regional trains, the SNCF expects one train in two to run in the region.
Details of train services are available on the TER Nouvelle-Aquitaine website.
The FSU teachers’ union’s departmental secretary said mobilization would be “massive” in Dordogne, and disruptions are expected in schools.
The article notes that after the October 17 protests, various calls to demonstrate were issued in Dordogne for Saturday, October 24, though the Dordogne prefecture had not authorized any gathering at that time. Students had also planned mobilizations on Tuesday, October 6, and high school blockades in Sarlat and other towns continued during the following days, with the CGT organizing a demonstration in central Périgueux on a third consecutive Saturday after a prior event had been banned.
