Capitanes CDMX 2026-27 season and Mexican player development: Capitanes CDMX Prepares for New Era: The NBA G League team opens its 2026-27 season November 6 against Oklahoma City Blue, focusing on developing Mexican talent, building on its first playoff appearance and unveiling a new bus for its 10th anniversary.

Capitanes CDMX Prepares for New Era, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico City): The Capitanes de la Ciudad de México are preparing for a season that could mark a new chapter in their history within the NBA G League. After earning their first playoff berth, the club aims to build on that progress, strengthen its structure and expand opportunities for Mexican talent.

During NBA Mexico Week, the team held an open practice for media at the facilities of the Comité Olímpico Mexicano. Players, coaching staff and executives shared their goals for the 2026-27 campaign, which begins November 6 against the Oklahoma City Blue.

One of the organization’s main priorities is strengthening the Prospect Development Program, an initiative focused on identifying and developing Mexican players with the potential to compete in professional basketball. The project aims to give young national talents greater opportunities for growth through the club’s sporting structure and its participation in a league that serves as a development platform linked to the NBA.

During the media session, Carlos Tostado, president of Capitanes CDMX, and Orlando Méndez, general manager, outlined the organization’s vision for the coming season. The challenge, they said, will be turning that development work into real opportunities for national players without losing sight of the competitive demands of the NBA G League.

As part of preparations for the new season and celebrations of the club’s 10th anniversary, Capitanes recently unveiled a new official bus. The vehicle features a predominantly blue design with yellow accents, the team crest and graphic elements marking its ten years of history.

At the presentation, players, coaches and Juanjolote, the club’s official mascot, arrived aboard the bus, which will be used for the team’s travel during the season.

The bus is part of a partnership the team has maintained since 2023 with ADO. The relationship began with support for team transportation and later expanded into various sporting and social initiatives.

The alliance was recognized in the 2023-24 season with the NBA G League Partnership of the Year award for a strategy that included mobility, fan experiences and community activities. The collaboration also supported the launch of Capitanes por México, an initiative aimed at contributing to the development of basketball in Mexico.

Beyond the institutional preparations, the real test will be on the court. Having reached the NBA G League playoffs for the first time, Capitanes will seek to show that result can be the starting point for a stage of greater competitiveness.

Under head coach Vítor Galvani, the team faces a campaign in which it must meet the expectations created by its recent growth and continue strengthening its connection with Mexican fans. At the same time, its national player development project offers an opportunity to build an identity that extends beyond the results of any single season.

Capitanes thus begin a new campaign with two challenges moving forward together: competing for increasingly ambitious goals and helping more Mexican basketball players find a path to professional careers.
