Vatican clarifies Pope Leo XIV has no confirmed Mexico visit, Digi Mart USA News (Vatican City): The Vatican has clarified that Pope Leo XIV has no scheduled or confirmed apostolic visit to Mexico, after confusion arose over an announced appearance at a parish dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The Holy See said the church included in the pope’s agenda is located in the Casavalle neighborhood, an area of limited resources in the Uruguayan capital, and therefore ruled out that the activity represented a travel announcement for Mexican territory.
According to the official program, Leo XIV will visit the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Saturday, November 7, where he will meet with members of the local community as part of his pastoral activities in South America.
The apostolic tour will begin Friday, November 6, and conclude Tuesday, November 17. During that period, the leader of the Catholic Church will travel through Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, with a schedule that includes about 50 activities, meetings with three presidents and 14 flights between the various destinations.
The international trip takes place less than a month after the pope underwent surgery for lung cancer. Despite this medical history, the Vatican confirmed that he is in condition to fulfill the planned commitments.
With this clarification, the Holy See ended reports anticipating a visit by Leo XIV to Mexico, making clear that, so far, the country is not among the destinations officially announced for his next apostolic tour.
