Mirna Vargas walks from Mexico City to Xalapa seeking custody access to daughter, Digi Mart USA News (Mexico): Nearly two weeks after leaving Mexico City, Mirna Vargas walked to Xalapa to ask authorities to allow her to see her daughter, Liora Valentina, who is 10 years old. She says she has been separated from the girl for three years because of a family conflict.

Vargas began the journey on October 21 together with Verónica Alonso, a leader of the Génesis collective. Her injuries made walking difficult, and a doctor advised her to stop, but she decided to continue so she could attend a meeting scheduled with state authorities.

According to the report, she slept in a car and at a gas station and used a cane during the trip. She described moments of distress when she saw the condition of her feet.

She said she needed to reach Xalapa to make her case visible and to let Liora know that she is still fighting to reunite with her.

Liora is about to turn 11, and her mother believes the time apart could change their relationship. For that reason, she says the two would need to start again rather than pretend nothing has happened.

Vargas says the separation began when the girl was moved from Mexico City to the port of Veracruz. Since then, she has faced family proceedings in both states, whose rulings she describes as contradictory and which she says have prevented visits from taking place.

She maintains that she is a victim of vicarious violence and questions why she has gone three years without seeing her daughter, saying there is no sentence against her and no judicialized criminal case that would justify the situation. She also reported delays in the proceedings, a change of three judges in Veracruz over the past year, and legal appeals that she says have slowed the case.

Some of the complaints she filed, she said, have remained unresolved for one to two years. As part of her visit, Vargas had a meeting scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

with state authorities, arranged through the State Secretariat of Government.

She is seeking a review of the judicial actions and conditions that would allow her to resume contact with Liora.
