Liverpool city centre car crash into restaurant, Digi Mart USA News (Liverpool, United Kingdom): Emergency services descended on Liverpool city centre on Saturday afternoon, November 7, after a car crashed into the front window of a restaurant. At around 12.35pm, Merseyside Police were called to North John Street over reports that a Peugeot car had hit the front of Tiger Rock, a Thai restaurant.
The driver stayed at the scene to assist with enquiries.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue said crews were called to the scene at 12.40pm and attended with two fire engines. When firefighters arrived, the driver was out of the car.
North West Ambulance Service also attended and assessed three people who had been inside the restaurant at the time of the collision for minor injuries.
Neighbouring businesses were evacuated, and road closures were put in place at the junction of Castle Street and Harrington Street, at Dale Street and North John Street, and at North John Street and Lord Street while the incident was dealt with. The owner of Johnny Goggles opticians on North John Street told the Liverpool Echo that a police officer asked him to evacuate because of an incident.
He closed the shop, secured the shutters and alarm, and sent his staff home. He said the emergency services arrived quickly and that this was “really reassuring.”
The impact of the crash caused a gas leak, which led firefighters and Merseyside Police to set up multiple cordons while a structural engineer and a gas engineer were called to attend. Merseyside Police said there was no indication the collision was deliberate.
A member of the public in the restaurant sustained a slight injury and was to be assessed. Anyone who witnessed the incident was asked to contact Merseyside Police via Facebook or X, or by calling 101 with reference 392.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue later said a multi-agency meeting had taken place and that crews were repositioning fire engines and setting up ground monitors. The North West Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team and other personnel were released from the scene.
A structural engineer advised that the damage had not compromised the building’s structural integrity. A Cadent gas engineer capped the gas leak, and cordons were reduced to North John Street between Victoria and Harrington Street.
Fire crews then left the scene in the hands of Merseyside Police.
