Elias Salomonsson leaves Winnipeg Jets for personal reasons, Digi Mart USA News: Swedish defenseman Elias Salomonsson has left the Winnipeg Jets for personal reasons, according to coach Scott Arniel. Salomonsson was absent from the lineup earlier this week in a 6–2 win, when Arniel said he was sick.
He was also missing from the ice ahead of Sunday’s home game, when Arniel announced that the 22-year-old had left the team. “Elias Salomonsson will not be with us right now,” Arniel said.
“He will be away from the team due to personal matters that he needs to take care of. There is no timeline for when he will be back.
We ask that you respect his privacy during this situation.”
Salomonsson underwent surgery on one shoulder at the end of April and missed the start of the season. Since returning, the former Västerbotten player has appeared in six pointless games, averaging 18 minutes and 20 seconds of ice time per game.
Salomonsson established himself in the NHL last season with 32 games for the Jets, recording one goal and four assists. He also has 84 AHL games with Winnipeg’s farm team, the Manitoba Moose, where he has scored six goals and added 31 assists for 37 points.
