Thamo Mzobe, USA News: The regional executive manager at the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in KwaZulu-Natal, Thamo Mzobe, has been placed on a precautionary suspension effective immediately. According to the social grant distribution agency, the disciplinary action is directly tied to her previous tenure at the National Development Agency (NDA).
In an official statement authored by SASSA spokesperson Dr. Paseka Letsatsi, the agency detailed the compliance requirements under statutory regulations. The precautionary suspension took effect on October 28, 2026, following a formal request from Mzobe’s former employer, the NDA, to institute disciplinary proceedings under Section 16 (4B) of the Public Services Act of 1994, as amended. SASSA noted that as the current employer, it has a clear legal obligation to cooperate with the request.
The agency emphasized that Mzobe maintains her presumption of innocence under the laws of the republic until all disciplinary processes are fully concluded. SASSA described the precautionary suspension as a standard administrative measure designed to facilitate the appropriate handling of the underlying matters, stressing that it should not be construed as a finding of guilt.
Furthermore, the administrative process will follow all applicable policies and procedures. SASSA reiterated its institutional commitment to maintaining high standards of governance, accountability, and ethical conduct throughout the administration of public services.
